  • My Painting Technique

Each painting begins with the careful selection and arrangement of objects, exploring various compositions that capture both aesthetic balance and narrative depth. Whether depicting food, portraits, or everyday objects, composition plays a crucial role in defining the final artwork.

    1. Surface Preparation
Once the composition is established, I determine the appropriate dimensions for the MDF panel or selected wood surface. The panel is prepared with a standard alkyd-based ground, ensuring a smooth, non-absorbent surface that allows for controlled application of oil paint.

    2. Sketching & Composition Layout
A grid is lightly drawn onto the panel to ensure accurate positioning of the composition—typically centered for balance and focus. A preliminary sketch follows, refining the composition and marking any key details or adjustments before the painting process begins.

    3. Initial Layer (Underpainting)
The first layer consists of thinned oil paint mixed with mineral spirits, carefully applied to establish the foundational values and structure of the piece. The pigments used in this stage are carefully selected to enhance the depth and luminosity of subsequent layers.

    4. Final Layers & Refinement
Once the underpainting is dry, I proceed with the final layers, gradually building up color, detail, and texture. Depending on the complexity of the piece, a third layer may be added to further enhance depth, realism, and vibrancy. Through this layered approach, I achieve a rich, luminous quality reminiscent of classical techniques while integrating modern precision and attention to detail.
